Since my book is geared toward children, I thought it would be appropriate to read it to a group of kids and get their feedback. Where else am I going to get the most honest feedback of all? A few Sundays ago, I was able to share my book with a group of 4th and 5th graders at my church, otherwise known as, "Club 45." I don't know why, but I was a little nervous reading my book out loud. This was the first time to be doing so, and I was anxious about the reaction. Before reading, I passed out note cards to them (see picture) and asked for some written feedback, positive or negative if they chose to. As I read through my book, the kids listened very attentively. After it was over, they shared their feedback, and this is some of what they had to say:
I loved the book!
I want a copy of the book.
I like the figurative language you used in the book.
I like the words you chose to use.
It made me happy.
I like the message.
I did not write anything down, but I really liked the book!
The experience and the feedback were genuine and heart-warming.
Should I read it to my middle school students???
